An Uncluttered Path (& a book review)

Sometimes, life has a way of dictating when we need to simplify things. Curveballs come that “help” us examine and redefine our priorities. In the spirit of “out with the old, in with the new”, or the newly trending Konmari method, clearing the clutter is important.

As I read my friend’s, Courtney Ellis, advance reader copy of UNCLUTTERED: Free Your Space. Free Your Schedule. Free Your Soul, I was surprised to find that although much in my life had already been reassessed (due to the dictation of an aforementioned curveball), one area was left unexamined. I’ll tell you more about that in a bit.

Simply sharing life in our world as we go. #tablementoring

I learned the importance of sitting around the table at a very early age. Mostly because there was good food involved but there was never a shortage of life happening around the table in my house. The table actually became one of my most favorite places to be, as long as people chewed with their mouths closed, that is.

As my family and friends would gather around the table, we would eat good food that was lovingly and skillfully prepared by my mom and stories would ensue. Laughter would always find its way to the table and sometimes there would be tears. But, for the most part, those who sat around my childhood table left feeling satisfied, in both belly and soul.

That Time I Went To A Party In Jen Hatmaker’s Backyard

goldenticketlaunchpartyI’ve mentioned here before that I was blessed to be on the launch team for Jen Hatmaker’s latest book, For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards. One day, someone on the team threw out the “what if we had a party to celebrate the launch and what if we had it at Jen’s house” idea. And Jen said (not her exact words), “Sure!! Come on over, all 500 of you. Why not?? We’ll get food and margaritas and ice tea and chat for a few hours in my back yard. Oh and we’ll take lots of selfies!” And the party planning began.
