Five Names of God: When You Simply Need Him

This week’s Friday Five prompt from my friend Kelly Smith at Mrs. Disciple, is Five Names of God. As I planned for this one, my thoughts immediately turned to who God has been to me in recent times when my heart has been in pain. In those times I need simple. I simply need Him. So for this post, for those who are hurting, I’m keeping it simple. I’m not writing too many of my own words because all the best words are in the songs. I hope you feel His love and comfort deeply as you listen to these songs that remind us of who God is. I hope these songs will be balm for your wounded spirit as they have been for mine.

Get In My Car and Let’s Find Hope Together

I’ve seen this video, Hope in Front of Me by Danny Gokey, before but for some reason it touched me in a new way when I watched it just now. Hope has carried me through some junk. Hope continues to carry me through some junk. I’m a firm believer in hope. Hope has kept me alive. Hope has kept me fighting. I could not survive without hope. None of us can.

Persevering: 5 Songs That Will Help In the Waiting

Per·se·vereˌ pərsəˈvir/ verb: continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success. Facing difficulty with little to no prospect of success. Oh my goodness… This sounds so bleak! Persevering without hope, without Christ, is bleak at best. Persevere is a verb. And action word. My idea of persevering is waiting while moving forward. That sounds more hopeful, doesn’t it?

Borrowed Words – Feel and Be Real – From Amanda and Mandisa

Because sometimes other people say it better…
~Andrea

Be Where You Are. Feel What You Feel.

Be where you are.
Feel what you feel.

Where you are is not an illusion,
and what you feel is quite real.
Poised and stoic,
it’s the face you display
when the onlookers chime in
to say you shouldn’t feel that way.
Be where you are.
Feel what you feel.
What if we all dropped the act
and embraced the totality of who we are,
instead of exhaustively overcompensating
for where we have lacked?
Be where you are.
Feel what you feel.
What if we embraced
the totality of who He is,
instead of trying to makes sense of it all?
Would life be but a vapor,
instead of an ongoing up-hill crawl?
Will we ever get that we’re in this together?
Can we give ourselves permission
to come inside, out of the bad weather?
Be where you are.
Feel what you feel.AEJ 4/14/15

And in the words of Mandisa:

Well, I’m tired of saying everything
I feel like I’m supposed to say
I’m tired of smiling all the time
I wanna throw the mask away
Sometimes you just have a bad day
Sometimes you just wanna scream
Tell me I’m not the only one
Tell me that you feel just like me

We keep tryin’ to make it look so nice
And we keep hidin’ what’s goin’ on inside
But what if I share my brokenness
What if you share how you feel
And what if we weren’t afraid of this crazy mess

What if we were real?
